Understanding the central idea

The students today watched the video ‘We all laugh in the same language.’

and reflected on how we may have different looks, we may talk in different languages, have different cultures, traditions but we all laugh in the same language. We all have emotions like of being happy or sad. We all have families whom we love and cherish our bond with. The discussions were very fruitful as the children were able to compare themselves amongst each other too. They reached a conclusion that though we are different we are alike.

The students then tried constructing a meaningful sentence out of the jumbled set of words given to them. They were able to arrive at the unit’s central idea

‘People are more alike than different from each other’ and penned down their thoughts as a group.

Yet another fruitful day.

Unit provocation 'The Ugly Duckling'

The kids watched the movie ‘The Ugly Duckling’ as a provocation to their first unit of inquiry and reflected on how we all may be different but all have commonalities too. We all have emotions and are bound to show them when needed. They were able to understand the importance of being self and also though we have our own individualities we all are tied with the thread of love and compassion which we cherish. They used the reflection strategy of NEWS to jot down their reflection about the movie-

N-Not so exciting

E- Excited them the most

W- Worrisome

S- Something interesting

OUR FIRST UNIT OF INQUIRY

We have now started with our inquiry on the TD theme ‘Who we are’ and the students tried discussing the different strands in the theme. They also talked about the different issues that can be dealt under each theme and presented their understanding to the class. The students worked as a team and displayed their communication and social skills all through the task. Wow!! It’s a great feeling to see how well the students try to comprehend what is in front of them and then come with their thoughts.

Understanding IB Learner profile and PYP Attitudes

The students also discussed about the IB Learner profile and pyp attitudes and gave examples of each word to he class. While they were discussing about the attitude ' Empathy' Kreesha came up with a question that if empathy is to feel someones pain then what does 'Sympathy' mean. As this query popped up in her head I asked all the students to take the question as 'INQUIRY OF THE DAY' and find out the difference between  Sympathy and Empathy. Some of the children were committed to finding out the meaning of the terms which they did share with their friends in the class. As a mark of appreciation they received certificates for the same. I am sure others will too be curious to find about the inquiry of the day which will be a part of our class learning

Arriving at essential agreement

The students came up with essential agreements for the class and agreed to follow them diligently for smooth functioning of class. They do revisit the agreements from time to time so that we all are reminded of what we have agreed upon. It's amazing to see them remind each other about it when they see anyone not following it.

First day to School

What a start to the year it was! The students of grade 3y had smiles and were filled excitement as they entered their new class. I was happy to welcome them as a part of grade 3 team and was joyful as we are now going to accomplish this journey of grade 3 together with lot of zeal and committment.

On first day the students had an icebreaker activity where they had a string of ball and they had to speak one unique thing about themselves befo throwing the ball to someone else. This way they created a web and were also able to understand that we all are connected to each other inspite of our differences and uniqueness. The excercise was a fabulous platform fo them to mingle with each other and to know something very special about each one of them that they were not aware off.

Aarush Sharma wanted to recite poem on 'Dinosaurs' which he did and all his friends appreciated him for the same.
